Vlog 2

So, my first story on our group website was about the changes in the number of international student visas allowed by the federal government, and how TRU is affected. I did a bunch of research online, so that went fine. I checked out the immigration Canada website, and the federal government website.

I borrowed a fancy camera from the MIC dept. and got a crash course in how to use it from Luke.  I went over to the International Dept. and took a bunch of pics, but was warned off taking photos of students, so that kind of limited my inspiration for photos a bit.

Then I reached out to the TRU International department for an interview. I initially got connected with Leah Dagg in the communications department.  She asked me a few questions, most notably “Was this going to be posted publicly, or just used for the purposes of the course?”, after which I was referred to Michele Young, Manager of the Communications Content in University Relations, to whom I submitted a list of questions.

In the interim I had found more answers on the TRU website but was happy to receive an official statement answering my questions from Michele, along with some statements from ZiPing Feng, Chief International Enrollment Officer, which I incorporated into my article at the last minute.  I was glad I had left enough time for all of this to transpire, because it took about 1.5-2 weeks all told.

So, that’s it!  Just a day in the life of a journalism student at TRU.
